We also heard from Axolile Notywala - Manager of Imali Yethu, a project by the Social Justice Coalition and Ndifuna Ukwazi. Imali Yethu or "Our Money" aims to promote public engagement with government budgets, ensure that government adequately allocates funds to the needs of marginalised communities, and monitor the implementation of allocated funds. This month marked the beginning of the social audits that was conducted to get a better understanding of service delivery in Khayelitsha which aspires to put pressure on the City to provide better service oversight, especially when they outsource important services like sanitation. On Sakhisizwe today, we were broadcasting live from the Delft Maternity and Obstetrics Unit at the Delft Community Health Centre as part of the MTC project in partnership with Bush Radio. We spoke to family physician - Dr Tasleem Ras and Madiepetsane Elizabeth Sikiti - Professional Nurse about the importance of nutrition, exercise and regular HIV testing during pregnancy. We were talking about their Construction Blitz that kicked off this week. The blitz forms part of the department’s national work plan which seeks to address inspections in high risk areas as labour inspectors embarked on a series of inspections to construction sites around the city. The driving force behind this initiative is the Enforcement and Inspection Services (IES), a specialized unit within the department with a specific focus on ensuring compliance within the labour sector. We were talking about the one-day roundtable event they are hosting on Friday titled: Filling the Gap towards gender justice and reconciliation in South Africa and Africa . In the wake of the Anene Booysen and Reeva Steenkamp murders and the increasing publicity and lobbying around Gender Based Violence and the high levels of rape in the country, the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation has formed a small working group to look into how they as an organisation can complement existing efforts to curb this worrying trend in our communities. IJR’s Youth and Reconciliation – My history, my hope our future is looking for 30 young energetic and vibrant youth between the ages of 16-25 in the Western Cape to participate in their all expenses paid 5 day youth camp from June 15 th to 19 th , 2013 . They want to hear from the youth what ideas can be translated into action by submitting either a short write up (maximum 100 words), a voice recording or a video clip of yourself (max 3 minutes) in any language most comfortable saying why you want to participate. We heard from Dessie Rechner - Director and founder of the Pink Ladies. We were talking about their new identity kit campaign that was launched in partnership with Mitchell's Plain SAPS. Pink Ladies in partnership with Mitchell’s Plain SAPS recently launched their new identity kit campaign at Huguenot Primary School in Tafelsig. The kit to be rolled out at Mitchell’s Plain schools provides information that’s needed by community organisations and the police when a child goes missing as it includes personal details and distinguishing features of the child. Taswell Williams - Chairman of Kilema Africa joined us to talk about their Light-up campaign. Kilema Africa is a Cape Town based NPO managed by people with disabilities. On the show today, we heard from Dr Lindiwe Pemba - Medical Adviser at Novo Nordisk. We were talking about the novoGo programme. Last week Novo Nordisk, a world leader in haemophilia and diabetes care, working in association with the South African Haemophilia Foundation launched a programme called novoGo that aims to facilitate treatment of a bleeding incident as early as possible, by providing transport money to haemophilia patients that experience emergency bleed. The programme has been rolled out in four centres namely Charlotte Maxeke Hospital , Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital , Polokwane General Hospital and Groote Schuur Hospital . The free Measles and Polio Immunisation Campaign for children under 5 years will kick off from Monday April 29 th . The Western Cape Government Health urges parents and caregivers to sign the consent forms for their children to be immunised as consent forms must then be returned to the crèches where teams of health workers will immunise the children. Children not attending crèches should be taken to their nearest clinic for their immunisation to ensure they protect their children against measles and polio. Patrick, Anna Burbank, Allie Ball and Christopher Mills are students from the University of Connecticut who are in Cape Town as part of the UConn in Cape Town Study Abroad Programme. After seeing lack of resources at the Sithembele Matiso High School in Nyanga, they decided to land a hand by revamping their library and they are currently looking for books. We were talking about their upcoming march to Parliament in a bid to hand over a memorandum and petition containing their grievances on Tuesday April 30 th at 11AM . This follows after collecting 2 500 signatures from concerned pensioners across the province since November last year who are disgraced by the government’s pension of R1 260. On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Sarah Driver-Jowitt - Regional Director for Operation Smile Southern Africa. OSSA is part of a global non-profit medical services organization that provides free, safe reconstructive surgery to children and young adults born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. According to OSSA, Cleft lips and cleft palates are the fourth most common birth defects in the world and are typically corrected shortly after a baby’s birth in areas with sufficient access to health care. However, for many children in rural areas around the world, medical treatment is not available.The organisation is currently on a mission in Madagascar to perform surgeries to hundreds of children who have cleft lips/palates and will do so in other African countries including South Africa .
