Monday - Health - Do you know about World Brest feeding week?

The World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is the greatest outreach vehicle for the breastfeeding movement being celebrated in over 120 countries. Officially it is celebrated from 1 - 7 August.

Breastfeeding has an important link to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which are meant to be achieved this year! Although poverty has gone down, 1 in 8 people still go to bed hungry. Undernutrition affects about a quarter of all children globally.
In the last 2 decades, child mortality has decreased by about 40%, but still almost 7 million children under five die each year, mainly from preventable diseases. As the overall rate of under-five mortality has declined, the proportion of neonatal deaths (during the first month of life) comprises an increasing proportion of all child deaths. Globally, maternal mortality has declined from 400 per 100,000 live births in 1990 to 210 in 2010, but fewer than half of women deliver in baby-friendly maternities.
By protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding, YOU can contribute to each of the MDGs in a substantial way. Exclusive breastfeeding and adequate complementary feeding are key interventions for improving child survival, potentially saving about 20% of children under five.

Monday - Health - We talk medication!!

Today i spoke to Balarka Robinson about meditation.

Meditation is an ancient practice used in many spiritual traditions and paths to reach a state of awareness or consciousness beyond the everyday experiences of the mind and body. In this state of consciousness we become aware of previously unknown inner qualities such as inner peace, inner joy, inner happiness and divine love. We experience these qualities not merely as transient ideas or thoughts of the mind, but rather as tangible inner realities that spontaneously change the way we experience and interact with the world around us. People who embark on a regular practice of meditation generally find that they feel happier, more peaceful and less affected by the natural ups and downs of life.

Why meditate ?
Everyone begins meditation for unique personal reasons, sometimes out of curiosity, sometimes out of a desire to become happier and more peaceful, or sometimes to follow a spiritual path. Whatever the reason, it does not matter. When we begin to meditate, we open a doorway to an inner journey and as our meditation practice blossoms, this journey unfolds for each of us in a unique and special way.

If everything is perfect in our lives and we are completely happy with what we have and what we are, then there is no reason to meditate. But for many us, if we are honest with ourselves, when we look within, we may find that we are lacking in real peace and joy. As life goes on, some of us reach a point where we feel that in order to be truly happy we need to explore beyond the range of the normal outer realities of life to seek an inner source of peace and happiness that is independent of outer circumstances. At this point, some of us find ourselves stumbling upon meditation.
