IJR to host a roundtable discussion on GBV

We closed off with Eleanor Swartz - Project Leader in the Building an Inclusive Society Programme at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation. We were talking about the one-day roundtable event they are hosting on Friday titled: Filling the Gap towards gender justice and reconciliation in South Africa and Africa. In the wake of the Anene Booysen and Reeva Steenkamp murders and the increasing publicity and lobbying around Gender Based Violence and the high levels of rape in the country, the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation has formed a small working group to look into how they as an organisation can complement existing efforts to curb this worrying trend in our communities. They are inviting a number of leading experts and civil society organisations to engage with them in a conversation about how the current gaps in addressing issues around sexual violence and gender justice (with a specific lens on reconciliation) might be narrowed. The event is happening at the Saartjie Baartman Centre in Manenberg on Friday, 26th of April 2013 from 9AM-4PM. For more information contact (021) 763 7190 or visit www.ijr.org.za
