April marks Autism Month

Jill Stacey - National Director of Autism South Africa joined us on the line to talk about Autism. April marks Autism month and it is reported that globally one in every 110 children is diagnosed with Autism and according to Autism Western Cape, boys are more likely to develop it than girls as they receive the diagnosis four times more frequently. Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). It is a lifelong, complex condition also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder. Autism South Africa strives to establish a sustainable network of educators and facilitators that can work together to raise the profile of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and improve the availability of beneficial services to those affected by ASD.
