Experimental evidence suggests that, with few exceptions, human breast milk is the best source infants. Experts still disagree about how long one should continue to breast feed, and how much extra risk is involved in using breast milk substitutes. Today we spoke to Tyrone Fulani – a technician from the Khayelitsha Business Computer Centre. The centre was set up by the Smart City project with partners, Internet Solutions, Zenzele Training and Development and Microsoft South Africa. This project is provided by the city to be utilised by the local and emerging small businesses and the community at large. Tyrone is one of three technicians at the centre. They believe in the uniqueness and potential of every child to mature and grow to responsible adulthood. The home is for abused teenage girls in Plumstead, and looks after about 20 girls. Today we spoke to Anthony George - from the Greater Bulls Disabled Sports Club. The club is looking for members to expand. People who become disabled are limited to emotional support and this initiative is a hope for individuals to feel part of the community and not feel like an outcast. Today we spoke to Nobuntu Habe – from the New Start Voluntary Counseling a nd Testing. We were talking about the work that they do and also the PEPFAR Initiative. PEPFA R (the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) is America's $15 billion initiative to combat the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. In total, many hundreds of organisations help PEPFAR to plan and implement activities in the Emergency Plan's 15 "focus countries". These partners range from local community groups to large international organisations, commercial companies and government departments. In today's show we spoke to Yumna van der Schyff – a Social worker from Ons Plek. The only intake shelter for girls in Cape Town. They provide for the girls’ basic needs like food, clothing, shelter, education and love. Once the children have crossed the threshold into Ons Plek they are not seen as street children, but as children who are looking for a new place in society. They are not looking for an identity as former street children either, but want to be seen as ordinary children. Today we spoke to Brenda Ngxoli – an actress. She played Mimi in Chacha and Vuy okazi in Home Affairs season 1 and season 2. Brenda completed a BA Theatre and Performers Diploma in Speech and Drama at the UCT in 2000. Besides acting Brenda has other talents including public speaking, motivational talks and facilitating workshops on issues such as business proposal writing and health etc. Brenda made her directing debut in 2004 when she directed Through Thick and Thin by Khanyi Magubane at the Market Theatre. She told us about her journey and some of the challenges she faces as an actress in this country. Today we spoke to Zolisa Sigabi – spokesperson for the Department of Labour. We were talking about the second wage hike in the taxi industry. As from the beginning of this mo nth, the wages for drivers and administrative staff will increase from R1432.35 to R1552.66 per month, Rank Marshals from R1145.88 to R1242.13 per month, while the wages for general workers such as fare collectors, and cleaners will increase from R1002.65 to R1086.87 per month. According to the department, this is in line with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and other relevant labour laws. The Department has issued a notice requesting interested parties to submit their inputs regarding minimum wages and conditions of employment for the sector.
