And we were also joined by Phumzile Nywagi and Zukile Ngqashe – from Khululeka Men’s Support Group. This is a support group for HIV-positive men who are mainly on antiretroviral treatment. Their aim is to promote gender equality and encourage men to speak freely about their HIV status in an all men environment. They meet every Sunday at no: 29 in NY 91 in Gugulethu. For more information about the Support Group you can contact uBhuti Phumzile at 072 577 1989.

Our last interview was with Vivian Gongota – a manager from the Planned Parenthood Association of South Africa. PPASA was established in 1931 when 7 young women gathered together, they discussed the desperate needs of birth control for tired and overburdened mothers. In February 1932 they opened the first mother’s clinic Observatory and currently PPASA runs workshops for men and women (12 men & 12 women) to discuss sexuality. These workshops give men the opportunity to listen to women and to ask difficult questions. PPASA also started a peer educator programme for groups of 15 men at a time. If you want more information about PPASA you can contact their offices at (021) 365 0880 or visit www.ppasa.org.za
