FRIDAY- ARTS AND CULTURE Today I had the honor to speak to Ziqu Pro-Found, a self taught performance artist based in Cape Town . PRO-Found is a composer of both music and poetry and the content is quiet versatile; ranging from heartfelt love pieces to pieces addressing social issues. His poetry has a way to touch the soul. PRO-Found operates as an independent artist/entertainer and his work has many faces. He has been featured in theater productions, live music and spoken word shows. Thursday – Labour ENFORCING FAIRNESS IN CREDIT AND CREDIT BUREAU MATT ERS We spoke to Salem Dyafta the Public Relations Manager about what you need to know when it comes to the credit bureau. Credit Bureau is an information hub when it comes to your accounts, as well as how often you shop. Credit Bureau monitors how good you pay your accounts in order to avoid debt. However it is the responsibility of the individual to make sure they have a good credit record by making regularly payments and it needs to be on time. If you feel you have not been treated with the correct respect or have any inquires you can lay a complaint at the credit ombud. According to the National Credit Act, every consumer has the right to one free credit report once in a 12 month period from the following credit bureaus being TransUnion (ITC), Experian, XDS and Compuscan. Wednesday – Gender Equality We spoke to Tracy Engelbrecht from Young Mom Support. Young Mom Support is a non profit organisation which began in 2010 as a social support group for pregnant and parenting teens, with monthly meetings. As the demand for there services has grown, they are moving towards a service model where the moms themselves will be trained to take ownership of their small community groups, as well as continuing to provide online support via email, chat and phone to pregnant and parenting teens around the country. They also provide workshops to schools on the topics of teen pregnancy and teen parenting and sexuality. Launched in 2007, WCD’s mission is to improve awareness of contraception to enable young people to make informed choices regarding their sexual and reproductive health. We spoke to Carol Jacobs the founder from Mothers Unite. Mothers Unite was started by a mother who realized that the children in her neighbourhood were not receiving a minimum of one meal a day. In 2008 three mothers started working with 30 children between the ages of 4 – 18 years from a mother’s home in Seawinds, Lavender Hill. The mothers now consist of 8 mothers and they cater for 80-90 children. They provide various programmes to the children to help them excel. BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE FOR CHILDREN IN NEED. We spoke to Charisse Fourie from Home from Home that was founded 11 years ago. The organisation provides homes for orphans, abused, neglected and vulnerable children, through a network of small family homes in disadvantage communities. The foundation was founded in February 2015, as there were just too many school children who did not have the basic essentials to attend school. World Retina Week, 18-24 September is observed in 42 countries to create awareness from blindness to sight for millions of people world wide with retinal blinding conditions. Bulelani was on the street since the age of 9 years but, refused to become a victim of Substance Abuse or Gangsterism. Monday - Health We spoke to Professor Hennie Botha Head of Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology. September serves as Cervical awareness month and Prof Botha spoke to us more about the implication and importance of early detection for cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the common form that effect women and it is the number 1 cause of death. Vaccination Campaign for Grade 4 pupils have been implemented to fight the papillomavirus(HPV). It is important to get a screening every 3 years as a minimum and a pap smear at the age of 30 years, as 1 in 35 women are diagnose with cervical cancer in there life. There ain't any clear warning signs for cervical cancer, but some common signs could be up normal bleeding and your discharge that smells.
