BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE FOR CHILDREN IN NEED.

We spoke to Charisse Fourie from Home from Home that was founded 11 years ago.
The organisation provides homes for orphans, abused, neglected and vulnerable children, through a network of small family homes in disadvantage communities. The module is called Cluster Foster Care, which is where they rent a normal house in the communities where the children are from and appoint a foster mother that is perfectly screened and create a family to give the children that sustainable loving effect.

 “ At Home from Home it is our goal to protect and love the most vulnerable children in the Western Cape through our network of small family homes. It is our hope that with love, nurturing and stability these children will be able to overcome their pasts to become happy and productive citizens we can all be proud of.”

Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
