30 August - Human Rights - Help to replace little Inako's hearing aids
In today's show, we spoke to Ruth Bourne – Principal at Carel du Toit Centre for Hearing Impaired Children. According to the principal, one of the learners, Inako Kom was robbed of her hearing aids, worth R 23 000 in Delft. It is suspected that the person who stole her hearing aids thought that they were a music listening device or Bluetooth. Now the four year old hearing has deteriorated further and she has a profound loss in the left ear and a severe hearing loss in the right ear. The Centre is asking for donations towards replacing her hearing aids. According to Mrs Bourne, Inako’s whole personality has changed since the futile theft of her hearing aids. Every day that she doesn't hear, ensures that her speech and language delay increases - taking away her opportunity of mainstreaming at a later stage.
