1% of the population will ever need that level of frail care

We had Jane Mills the social Enterprise Development Manager at NOAH(Neighborhood Old Age Homes).

NOAH is an organisation that was established in response to the need for safe and affordable accommodation for the elderly. They have been operating since 1981 and have continued to make sure the elderly do not become victims of loneliness, abuse, illness and depression.

NOAH was formed for a need for accommodation for social pensioners. Their work with social pensioners is to provide basic services to their medical home health and happiness home being community based housing at very affordable rent. They've got 12 houses in the Woodstock and the greater Cape Town area.

The requirements  as an organisation that they look for is to have to be over the age of 60 then need only to have the social grant as an income.Housing is very limited, the government unfortunately doesn't provide adequate housing for people hence they have a waiting list and there's a very specific system that they work with around a waiting list of people getting placed on the waiting list .But where the clinics are concern they have capacity, because obviously they don't want to take on so many people that are quality of service is diminish. If people are interested in becoming clinic members either in Khayelitsha or in Woodstock they call in and they just literally come to the clinic and see if there's a place available for them, but certainly birth centre's in Khayelitsha and Woodstock is open to anyone so if you are 60 you only have a social Grant it's a worthwhile getting involved some amazing stuff takes place.

According to her "the biggest differentiation for me is that we believe that just because people are 60 years of age, what other people would consider poor because just got that amount of money to live on we think that you can still have a happy for filled meaningful life and you can do a lot more than just survive you can prosper you can even have another career, but you can generate income for yourself by social Enterprises so I think that really is the uniqueness of it if you come to NOAH, I've seen people remark it isn't an old-age home it's not what you think it is not people sitting in front of the TV and knitting and doing what we think people misty we don't believe that it is a hindrance for you to contribute to the economy and I think that that's very fundamental difference".

They worked very hard to have strategic partnerships with people that are long-term relationships ,but fundraising is a challenger or generating money for the organisation is the challenge to get a grant for the foundation to give money they've gotta worry about where the next one's coming from . the challenges that they face is the huge shortage of housing that is faced by older persons in this country the government sadly there's a great deal of money to frail care. According to some research only 1% of the population will ever need that level of frail care there's a whole majority of people that literally don't have anywhere to live on the inactive the Independent there's nothing there so they worked very hard to work with governments to unlock funding that is available in provincial government.
