"We are being raped and killed on a daily basis", Leando a transgender woman says.

Leando spoke to us about her experience as a transgender woman. She is a self-taught make-up artist, YouTuber and transgender advocate.

As we already know being human in our society is already hard enough because of all the hatred and abuse society gives. Now, being born male and then transitioning to being female, Leando and other transgender people deal with it on an even more intense level.

She spoke to us about how sometimes even your own family turns their back on you because of you've decided to live your truth and be your most authentic self.

Government does not support transgender people as much as they should, their staff is unwilling to help and will at times misgender you on purpose.

"We are being raped and killed on a daily and there isn't enough coverage on that", she mentioned this in the conversation about what it is like living as a transgender person in Africa.

She says that transgender people just want to live and be respect as any other person. Truly every person should be able to do so.

Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
