Monday - Health - The South African Bone Marrow Registry urges South Africans be donors!


Today we spoke to Professor Ernette Du Toit from The South African Bone Marrow Registry .Every year thousands of individuals with blood diseases reach a stage where their only hope for a cure in a bone marrow transplant. 

Leukaemia is a group of bone marrow diseases involving an uncontrolled increase in white blood cells (leukocytes). There is around a 30% chance of a sibling being a bone marrow match, meaning that there is a 70% chance that someone will need a transplant from a non-related donor.


 The South African Bone marrow registry is encouraging people to be donors.
