Dr Georgia Demetriou - an oncology specialist
at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre joined us on the line. We were talking about Colorectal Cancer as this
month marks Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is said to be the third most common cancer and cause of
cancer-related death worldwide, and is the fourth top cancer amongst both men
and women in South
Africa . Despite this high
statistic, very few people have heard about colorectal cancer or know much
about it. Dr Demetriou explained more.
Be Cancer Aware aims to change the lack of awareness by paying special
attention to the disease during these months. For more information go to www.becanceraware.co.za
