March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Dr Georgia Demetriou - an oncology specialist at Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre joined us on the line. We were talking about Colorectal Cancer as this month marks Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is said to be the third most common cancer and cause of cancer-related death worldwide, and is the fourth top cancer amongst both men and women in South Africa. Despite this high statistic, very few people have heard about colorectal cancer or know much about it. Dr Demetriou explained more. 800 million people around the world are living with obesity.

  4th of March is observed as World Obesity Day and we spoke to CEO Professor Pamela Naidoo and Dietitian Kinza Hussian from The Heart and Stroke Foundation.  So according to the World Obesity Federation, 800 million people around the world are living with obesity. And then also in South Africa almost 65% of women and 30% of men are classified as being overweight or obese. Child Protection Week is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and well-being of children.
