In today's show, we spoke to Captain Ezra October and Sergeant Hilton Malila – From the South African Police Service about the SAPS Recruitment Drive. The SAPS is inviting young, energetic, intelligent, physically and mentally fit individuals for enlistment in the Basic Police Development Learning Program for vacancies at various stations in the Western Cape Province. Selected applicants shall participate in a Basic Police Development Learning Program:- ten months training at a designated SAPS Academy during which the SAPS will provide free training gear, meals and accommodation; twelve months training at a designated Field Police Development police station during which the trainee shall be responsible for his/her own meals and accommodation; two months Integrated Assessment at a designated SAPS Academy (free meals and accommodation).  Upon successful completion of the program trainees will be considered for permanent appointment as members of the SAPS. Application forms can be obtained from the Human Resource Official at your local police station or the Provincial Recruitment Centre, 1st Floor, Customs House Building, Lower Heerengracht Street, Cape Town. Applicants will be subjected to the relevant screening and selection as determined by the National Commissioner once the completed application form is handed back to the Human Resource Official or Provincial Recruitment Centre. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
