Tomorrow is World Psoriasis Day

Dr Ilana Steenkamp - Dermatology registrar at Groote Schuur Hospital and long time Psoriasis sufferer Alister Porthen also committee member of the South African Psoriasis Association joined us on the line to tell us more about living with Psoriasis. Tomorrow is also World Psoriasis Day which aims to raise more awareness about this condition. Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disorder and it affects one to two percent of the population. Unfortunately there is no cure for Psoriasis, but many different treatments, both topical (on the skin) and systemic (throughout the body), can clear psoriasis for periods of time. On Saturday they will be hosting a free concert at the Golden Acre Mall to raise awareness about psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis. 800 million people around the world are living with obesity.

  4th of March is observed as World Obesity Day and we spoke to CEO Professor Pamela Naidoo and Dietitian Kinza Hussian from The Heart and Stroke Foundation.  So according to the World Obesity Federation, 800 million people around the world are living with obesity. And then also in South Africa almost 65% of women and 30% of men are classified as being overweight or obese. Child Protection Week is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and well-being of children.
