Dr Ilana Steenkamp - Dermatology registrar at Groote Schuur Hospital and long time Psoriasis sufferer
Alister Porthen also committee member of the South African Psoriasis Association
joined us on the line to tell us more about living with Psoriasis. Tomorrow is also World Psoriasis
Day which aims to raise more awareness about this condition. Psoriasis is a
non-contagious skin disorder and it affects one to two percent of the
population. Unfortunately there is no cure for Psoriasis, but many different
treatments, both topical (on the skin) and systemic (throughout the body), can
clear psoriasis for periods of time. On Saturday they will be hosting a free concert at the Golden
Acre Mall to raise awareness about psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis. For more information you
can contact the South African Psoriasis Association on (021) 406 9725 or
visit www.psoriasis.org.za
