October is Mental Health Awareness Month

We closed off with Maleeka Mokallik - Public Relations and Communications Manager for Cape Mental Health. We were talking about commemorating October as Mental Health Awareness Month. During the course of October, Cape Mental Health raised awareness on the importance of good mental health throughout life since it is reported that depression will be the number two leading cause of disability by 2020 and number one by 2030 with older people just as risk as younger people. The Cape Mental Health's concerns are that mental health problems are one of the leading burdens of disease in South Africa yet only a tiny percentage of annual health budget is directed to mental health.
