Gender - Joburg Mardi Gras: a new generation of Pride to be launched

Samantha Durkin – Former Joburg Gay Pride Festival Company Board Member joined us on the line. The board of Joburg Gay Pride Festival Company voted to end the Section 21 Company that has produced Joburg Pride over the past seven years. The Company was voluntarily wound up by unanimous resolution at a board meeting in March this year. Samantha explained more on what influenced the board’s decision. She is currently organising a new event for the LGBTI community, the Joburg Mardi Gras. The Joburg Mardi Gras will be a festival of cultural and social entertainment events, offering an unconditional platform for community expression. 800 million people around the world are living with obesity.

  4th of March is observed as World Obesity Day and we spoke to CEO Professor Pamela Naidoo and Dietitian Kinza Hussian from The Heart and Stroke Foundation.  So according to the World Obesity Federation, 800 million people around the world are living with obesity. And then also in South Africa almost 65% of women and 30% of men are classified as being overweight or obese. Child Protection Week is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and well-being of children. Their work aligns with the goals of Child Protection Week, focusing on advocacy, education, and empowerment to create a safer and more inclusive environment for children.
