Human Rights - Justice and Constitutional Development Committee Calls for SAHRC Nominations

On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Llewellyn Landers - Chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development about their call for South African Human Rights Commission nominations. Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development is calling on individuals, organisations, institutions and civil society to nominate suitable people for consideration as Commissioners at SAHRC. The nominees must be South African citizens who are fit and proper to serve on the SAHRC and in addition possess suitable qualifications, expertise and experience in the area of human rights. Nominations must reach: Vhonani Ramaano, Committee Secretary, 3rd Floor, 90 Plein Street, Cape Town 8001 / PO Box 15, Cape Town 8000 by no later than Friday, April 5, 2013 at 17:00PM. 800 million people around the world are living with obesity.

  4th of March is observed as World Obesity Day and we spoke to CEO Professor Pamela Naidoo and Dietitian Kinza Hussian from The Heart and Stroke Foundation.  So according to the World Obesity Federation, 800 million people around the world are living with obesity. And then also in South Africa almost 65% of women and 30% of men are classified as being overweight or obese. Child Protection Week is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and well-being of children. Their work aligns with the goals of Child Protection Week, focusing on advocacy, education, and empowerment to create a safer and more inclusive environment for children.
