Zip Zap Circus School to host a free show on World AIDS Day

We closed off with Brent van Rensburg – Zip Zap circus school co-founder and artistic director. Zip Zap Circus School is the oldest circus in Cape Town and the only social circus in South Africa. In line with the World AIDS Day on 1st December 2012, Zip Zap Circus is performing with children from their HIV/AIDS outreach programme, Ibhongolethu and other social groups. The show is an annual Zip Zap Circus School production in partnership with Médecins Sans Frontières and Cirque du Soleil. The performance aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and to encourage an attitude of acceptance and understanding in the community. It’s happening on the 1st of December 2012 from 10AM to 3PM with the Zip Zap Circus School performing at 12PM at the Oliver Thambo Hall, corner of Mew Way and Lansdowne Road in Khayelitsha. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
