December 3rd marks International Day of Disabled Persons

Busi, Gavin & Beverline
We closed off with Beverline Steiger - from the Mitchell’s Plain Disability Forum and Gavin Maget - from the Western Cape Network for Disability to tell us more about commemorating the International Day of Disabled Persons. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. The theme this year is Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all". The Mitchell’s Plain Disability Forum is an organisation that’s run and managed by disabled people in the Mitchell’s Plain area and beyond which serves as a help desk for persons with disabilities and their families. It envisions the empowerment and upliftment of the disabled community and to create opportunities to sustain the livelihood of the disabled people and parents of disabled children, socially and economically. The Western Cape Network for Disability will host the International Day of Disabled Persons event on the 3rd of December at Vygieskraal stadium from 9AM. For further information you can contact Gavin on 082 459 6907. The Mitchell’s Plain Disability Forum will host a sports day event on the 5th of December in Mitchell’s Plain from 9AM. For more information contact Beverline on 071 699 1046 or (021) 392 5132.
