28 November - Women and Beyond to host 16 Days of Activism against Abuse event

In today's show, we spoke to Ethel Taylor - Founder of Women and Beyond. She was here to tell us more about the 16 Days of Activism against Abuse event that they are hosting this weekend at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 16:30PM. The evening will include a panel of prominent speakers and abuse survivors, their report and research presented and good food and music. Women and Beyond a registered Non Profit Organisation that provides services to women and children who are succumbed to living under adverse circumstances primarily focusing on women living in informal settlements and rural areas across South Africa to address Poverty and HIV/AIDS. They aim to educate, empower, care for and support these women. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
