27 November - Human Rights - Childsafe launches "Buckle-up or you’ll be back" campaign

In today's show, we spoke to Professor Sebastian Van As - From Childsafe and head of the Paediatric Trauma Unit at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital. We were talking about the launch of their "Buckle-up or you’ll be back" campaign. Childsafe and the management of Red Cross Children’s Hospital launched the campaign last week Thursday in an effort to raise awareness as to the dangers of not buckling-up when driving, particularly when driving with children in the vehicle. It is reported that road crashes claim the highest mortality in the age group 1-18 years worldwide, while in South Africa, 250 children are killed on the road each year because adults didn’t buckle them up. More than twice as many die as pedestrians. Childsafe is a campaign of the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of Southern Africa and Safe Kids Worldwide that aims to promote optimal health and development of all children under the age of 18.
