Down Syndrome SA is hosting 11th World Down Syndrome Congress

We also heard from Vanessa dos Santos - CEO of Down Syndrome South Africa. We were talking about the 11th World Down Syndrome Congress 2012 that’s currently taking place in Cape Town. The Congress is being hosted by Down syndrome South Africa with the support of the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The theme of the Conference is “The Big Five” focusing on: Rights, Health, Education, Employment and Social Integration for people with Down syndrome. The congress will bring together people with Down syndrome, Professionals, Parents of Children with Down Syndrome, Government Officials and activists from all over the world to craft an agenda with priorities which will assist in taking forward matters affecting people with Down Syndrome globally. 800 million people around the world are living with obesity.

  4th of March is observed as World Obesity Day and we spoke to CEO Professor Pamela Naidoo and Dietitian Kinza Hussian from The Heart and Stroke Foundation.  So according to the World Obesity Federation, 800 million people around the world are living with obesity. And then also in South Africa almost 65% of women and 30% of men are classified as being overweight or obese. Child Protection Week is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and well-being of children.
