We also heard from Cindy
Faull - A certified Lymphoedema physiotherapist speaking to us about this
condition. August is Lymphoedema Awareness Month. Lymphoedema also known as lymphatic obstruction is a condition
of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised
lymphatic system which returns the interstitial fluid to the thoracic duct and
then to the bloodstream, where it is recirculated back to the tissues. According
to Lymphafrica.net, there are two types of lymphoedema namely primary and secondary that affects not
only the legs and arms, but also other areas such as the abdomen, neck, head, face and genitalia.
