Mthembu - Guest editor of Agenda Feminist Media. She was speaking to us about
the Launch of feminist journal Agenda No 92 “The politics of women’s health in South Africa ”. In celebration of Agenda,
a Durban based feminist journal’s
25 years, it’s jointly hosting a feminist dialogue to launch issue 92 “The politics of women’s health in South Africa ” with the Human
Sciences Research Council as activists and researchers connect via a video conference. Health Minister, Dr Aaron
Motsoaledi, joined women’s health researchers and activists to discuss the
crisis in women’s health in South Africa and outlined possible
policy solutions to address the crisis. The editors urge the Department of
Health to address the high rates of cervical cancer among HIV-positive women in
SA and for policy on the issue to be aligned with internationally accepted
approaches endorsed by the World Health Organisation and Centers for Disease
Control. Other guest speakers included Barbara Klugman and Kathathso Makoetle
who described the formation of a national organisation Sexual and Health Rights
Initiative, Marlise Richter and Pamela Chakuvinga who discussed evidence-based
advocacy for the decriminalisation of sex work. For further information you can
