City high schools invited to elect Junior City Council

We also heard from Alderman Owen Kinahan – From the City of Cape Town. The reconstruction of the Junior City Council has now commenced with invitations to about 300 state and independent high schools across the city. All high schools who would like to participate in the Junior City Council are invited to do so before the 11th of November. The Cape Town Junior City Council provides a forum for the introduction of school-going youth to civic and community affairs, and the development of management and leadership skills. It does so to educate and uplift young people and to build leaders of the future. The composition of the JCC has been redesigned to more closely align the schools in each of the city’s 111 wards with governance and service delivery in Cape Town. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
