Motor Neuron Disease Association of South Africa explains all you want to know about MND

We closed off the show with an interview with Sheila Kendal - Vice President of the Motor Neuron Disease Association of South Africa. Motor neuron diseases are a group of neurological disorders that attack motor neurons. These are the cells that control voluntary muscle activity such as speaking, walking, breathing, and swallowing. This disruption leads to the eventual weakening and wasting away of muscle and causes uncontrollable twitching. Stiffness of limb muscles and over-active reflexes, causing knee and ankle jerks are some of the symptoms associated with Motor Neuron Disease. Over time, the ability to control voluntary movement can be lost. Sheila explained more about Motor Neuron Diseases.
