Finding ways to fight against “corrective” rape
Our last interview was with Melanie Nathan - Founding CEO of Private Courts and LGBTI Activist. Two days ago Melanie was invited, along with members of the South African lesbian rights group Luleki Sizwe to a discussion about “corrective” rape, by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Jeff Radebe. According to a report on ActionAid – an international anti-poverty agency, Lesbian women in South Africa are being raped by men who believe it will “cure” them of their sexual orientation. The report further states that one lesbian and gay support group says it is dealing with 10 new cases of lesbian women being targeted for “corrective” rape every week in Cape Town alone. Melanie explained more about the outcome of the meeting. If you want more information contact visit www.lezgetreal.com
