24 March - Labour - “You, your domestic worker and the new laws”
In today's show we were joined by Bernard Reisner – A consultant at the Cape Labour & Industrial Consultants. According to the Department of Labour, between one to 1.5 million South Africans are estimated to be employed as domestic workers. For decades, the industry was an unregulated one, rife with exploitation and abuse. Recent years have seen significant changes within the industry, particularly with the enforcement of the Domestic Workers Act. Bernard recently published a book titled, “You, your domestic worker and the new laws”. He explained more about the law, and what both employees and the employer need to know.
