Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

We closed off with an interview with Jessica Gammon, Ntokozo Nkomo, Yumna Moosa and Mam' Nondumo - A Social Worker. We were talking about the abuse of elderly people in Langa as we commemorate the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. A group of 5 medical students from UCT were given a project about 2 months ago by the faculty, to find out how many elderly people are being abused in the community of Langa, as well as the risk factors associated with the abuse of the elderly. They joined us to share their findings and what us the community can do in fighting against this sick practice. To report cases of abuse you can contact HEAL on 0800 003 081 or the Action on Elder Abuse offices on (021) 424 0574, Age-in-Action on (021) 423 0204 alternatively visit www.age-in-action.co.za
