World Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) Day

We also heard from Vivien Lourens – a foster mother to a 13-year-old girl who has Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. We were talking about effects of Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. FAS is the most serious set of permanent physical and mental birth defects associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy. On Wednesday is the World Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) Day. This day is held each year at nine minutes past nine on the ninth day of the ninth month to draw attention to the fact that women should not drink alcohol for nine months whilst pregnant. They will be hosting an even at St Georges Cathedral. For more information you can visit your nearest health care centre or contact Vivien on 082 509 9530 alternatively visit www.nofas.org
