Hijab: Unveiling Queer Muslim Lives - a groundbreaking anthology of queer Muslim stories

We were also joined Instudio by Pepe Hendricks, Branden Grant and Qiyaam. We were talking about a book they recently launched titled: Hijab: Unveiling Queer Muslim Lives. The book is said to be a groundbreaking anthology of queer Muslim stories. It represents a set of voices from various backgrounds and generations whose stories are said to be true. It also explores and addresses, through these personal accounts, the fear and isolation of being gay and Muslim as well as the triumphs despite a largely homophobic society. They explained more on the book and general issues regarding the challenges that Muslim gays and lesbians face in South Africa. The book is available at R120, for more information go to www.theinnercircle.org.za or contact (021) 761 0037.
