Consumers are not obliged to let retailers copy their ID documents!!!
We closed off with an interview with Pat Cunningham – Executive Director for the South African Fraud Prevention Services. It has been recently reported that Consumers are not obliged to let retailers copy their ID documents and by doing so, you’re making yourself vulnerable to identity theft. According to Mr. Cunningham, there is no legislated requirement for an organisation to take or make a copy of a person’s ID book, but unfortunately it has become common practice in South Africa for this to be done by retailers and other organisations, Mr. Cunningham explained more. If you’ve lost your ID document or had it stolen from you and you want to avoid becoming a victim of ID fraud, contact the SA Fraud Prevention Service on (011) 869 6460 or visit www.safps.org.za
