In today’s show, we were joined on the line by Brett Bailey – Curator for Infecting the City Performing Arts Festival. The Festival presented by the Africa Centre, will take place in the Cape Town CBD from tomorrow the 21st till the 27th of February. An innovative component of Infecting the City 2009 is the creation of collaborative works made by teams of artists from Europe, South Africa and some SADC countries. We were also joined Instudio by an artist from Europe whose work will be part of the Festival. Rimini Protokoll’s Sebastian Bringer is here to showcase their production titled Call Cutta In A Box. An Intercontinental Phone Play. He explained more on how it works. Call Cutta In A Box will be at the Scalabrini Centre and tickets costs R30. We also heard from Mbulelo Samby – Artscape Associate Drama Consultant. He was here with the cast members of Romeo and Juliet Unplugged, Anele Situlweni, Briony Horwitz and Lungi Phinda. This production is presented by the Artscape in collaboration with Siyasanga Cape Town Theatre Company. This collage of Shakespeare’s play, which runs for eighty minutes, is the acoustic version, without the full-on electronics. It has been compiled by master educator, publisher and writer, Robin Malan and adapted by popular, leading actress Anthea Thompson, who will also direct the play. We closed off the show with an interview with Esma Le Roux – from the World Wide Fund for Nature. We were talking about Earth Hour. Earth Hour is a global WWF climate change initiative which calls on individuals, businesses, governments and communities to switch off their lights for one hour on Saturday March 28, 2009 at 8:30 PM. The action is a show of support for action on climate change and more specifically for a fair, effective and science-based global deal to be negotiated by world leaders at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference at the end of this year. Esma explained more about the importance to commit to action on climate change. South Africans are urged to pledge their commitment at www.earthhour.org.za or send an sms to 34017.
