We also heard from Mbulelo Samby – from the Artscape. We were talking about one of the major production running during the 4th Artscape Spring Drama Season. The play titled The Return is written by one of South Africa’s leading playwrights, Fatima Dike. It is a project of the Artscape New Writing Programme and explores some of the difficult issues facing South Africa’s cotemporary Black society. The production is directed by leading director and theatre producer, Roy Sargeant. The cast stars famed veteran actress Nomhle Nkonyeni, Mzwakhe Mdidimba, Roshina Ratnam and Phakamisa Zwedala. Set and costume designs are by Dicky Longhurst and the lighting design is by Alfred Rietmann. Booking for the play’s season, which opens with low-price previews on the 13th and 14th of November and runs from the 15th to the 29th of November, can be made at Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on (021) 421 7695. We closed off the show with an interview with David Johnson – An actor. David is featured on Yellowman, Lara Bye’s production opening at the Baxter’s Sanlam Studio on 6 November till 29th at 20:15PM. The production explores the tension between light and dark-skinned African-Americans through the heartbreaking story of childhood sweethearts ‘yellaman’ Eugene and the big and dark Alma. The production has just returned from a tour of Holland and winner of the Kanna Best Production at the 2008 ABSA KKNK.
