SAWEN is a networking forum for individuals and organisations that are committed to the promotion and advancement of women entrepreneurs. It is a dti project that aims to represent and articulate the aspirations of all women entrepreneurs (existing and potential) in the SMME sector. They will be hosting an Economic Development Conference, taking place on the 18th of April for all women entrepreneurs at the Belmont Square Conference Centre in Belmont Road, Rondebosch. We also spoke to Evelyn Moses – Training public awareness co-ordinator from Athlone Rape Crisis. They are in need of volunteers. They are looking for women and men who are 23- years and older who would like to make a difference in their community by becoming a Rape Crisis community development worker. We closed off the show with an interview with Sharon Masinga – Programme officer from Women on Farms project. We will be talking about Abuse of women and children on farms. Children on farms in the Western Cape are among the most vulnerable persons in our society. Their extreme vulnerability and marginalization exposes them to a great number of social ills and health risks that place them at a great developmental disadvantage. The Women on Farms Project strives to strengthen the capacity of women who live and work on farms to claim their rights and fulfill their needs. They do this through socio-economic rights-based and gender education, advocacy and lobbying, case work and support for the building of social movements of farmwomen. Sharon shared with us some of the challenges they deal with. For more information contact their offices on (021) 887 2960 or visit www.wfp.org.za
