19 March – Gender

We were joined Instudio by Glen De Swart – From Cape Town Pride. We were talking about homoprejudice. The word homoprejudice means discrimination against gays and lesbians. It is also linked with homophobia. It is prejudice, based on the belief that lesbians and gays are immoral, sick or somehow inferior to heterosexuals. It is reported that the ugliest façade of homoprejudice is the fact that black lesbians living in the township areas are at an increased risk of the so-called “corrective” rape – based on the assumption that rape can change them. Glen explained more on the role that the community can play in fighting such acts. If you want more information about Cape Town Pride contact (021) 425 6461 or visit www.capetownpride.co.za.
