Nigel Vermaas was also in today for the Arts update in and around the city. The Baxter Theatre Centre is calling for applications from young South African actors who will be under 30 years old in June this year, who wish to audition for the Brett Goldin Bursary for 2008. Auditions will take place at the Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town during the week of 25 February with the finals on 7 and 8 March. The closing date for applications is Friday, 22 February at 5PM. The organisers of the Brett Goldin Bursary have decided to hold the event every second year, so the next call for applications is only expected in 2010 and will take place in Johannesburg. So make sure you don’t miss this opportunity. All enquiries should be directed to Roz van der Vyver on (021) 680 3988. Applications should be clearly marked and addressed to her and should be faxed to (021) 689 1880, e-mailed to Roz.Vandervyver@uct.ac.za or delivered to the Baxter Theatre Centre, Main Road, Rondebosch by no later than 17:00 on Friday, 22 February.

We closed off the show with an interview with Unathi Sigenu and Kevin McCauley – artists from CitySkin. CitySkin is an association of artists devoted to the creative redesign of public space in its various forms. We were talking about the Spier Contemporary Mural Painting Project. The mural project is open seven days a week from 10h00 until 18h00 and runs concurrently with the Spier Contemporary Exhibition until 20 February when this magnificent mural will be unveiled. The Africa Centre and CitySkin invite all students and young artists, school and youth groups, community organizations and creative people in general to participate in this dynamic art project. For more information go to www.africacentre.net or email Kevin your messages to info@cityskin.org if you want them to be included on the mural.
