08 February – Arts, Culture and Environment

In today’s show we were joined by Nigel Vermaas for the Arts update in and around the city. Nigel mentioned that the very popular teenager life-skills theatre programme Sithi@baxter kicks off its first cycle for 2008 on Friday, 22 February, and interested young enthusiasts are invited to apply immediately. It’s aimed at teaching young people life-skills through the medium of theatre. Sithi@baxter is for interested teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18, and applications to join the programme should be sent to the Project Manager, Nicolette Moses, on (021) 680 3964 or via email to nicolette.moses@uct.ac.za.

Fatima Dike, Fikile Mahola and Morena Medi were our guests in studio. We were talking about a play called Woza Albert. Fatima is the Director of the play. Fikile and Morena are lead actors. This classic play is about people under oppression who in their darkest moments are given hope by their faith in God. Woza Albert is presented by Siyasanga Cape Town Theatre Company in association with Artscape and will be at the Artscape Arena from the 16th of February till the 2nd of March. Tickets range from: R40-R60. For more information contact (021) 410 9800 or visit www.artscape.co.za
