05 December – Gender

Today on Sakhisizwe we were joined by Yvonne Lungcuzo who is the Chief Executive Officer of Siyabelana. Siyabelana was founded by three women who were determined to rise above their humble beginnings and make a change to their surrounding communities. The consortium has now grown to 24 women that are active within various sectors of construction. For more information you can contact their offices on (021) 422 1874 or visit their website at www.siyabelana.co.za

Mirjam van Heugten who is the organiser of the Miniskirt march joined us in studio to talk about the aim of the march. As we are in the midst of the 16 days of activism campaign, the South African Media and Gender Institute or SAMGI will be doing something different this Friday when they hold a Mini Skirt March. The March is in support of all rape survivors who most of the time have to justify themselves to family, friends, police and prosecutors for what they were wearing at the time of the attack. The march will start at 10AM on Friday at the company gardens in Adderly Street; and you are advised to join the march in a miniskirt. For more information you can contact Mirjam on (021) 424 0653 or email her to miriam@samgi.org.za
