Our last interview was with kopano Matlwa – winner of the third annual European Literary Awards for South African best first novel. Her book is titled Coconut. Kopano is a featured author in the Homebru collection which pays special tribute to South African writing. Coconut is a story that deals with growing up as a black child in a white world. This is the story of the generation of black youth who grew up in white neighbourhoods, went to Model C schools, where fitting in sometimes cost them their black identity and the book is available in most book shops.
