Today we spoke to Khwezi Bonani – International Student Officer at the University of Cape Town. We were talking about Africa Day Event that the International Academic Programmes Office and All Africa House will be celebrating today but the official date of Africa Day is May 25th which is tomorrow. We also spoke to Bassier Fortuin an entrepreneur. Bassier owns Fortuin Construction and is based in Mithells Plain. With so much development plans for the city, his business prospects look bright as the will be demand for his services. Our last interview was Johnovan Rustan – from the South African Democratic Teacher’s Union. We were talking about tomorrow’s strike action by public service unions members; this includes teachers, police and health workers. They claim a 12% increase in basic pay over one year and improvements in the pay progression structure, housing allowances and medical benefits, job creation and the filling of vacant posts. Johnovan told us more about tomorrow’s plans and the action they going to take if their demands are not met. The following unions will be participating in the march SADTU, NEHAWU, POPCRU, DENOSA, SADNU, PAWUSA, HOSPERSA, SAPU, and NAPTOSA.
