Today we spoke to Mary-Anne Jonkerman – a Social Worker at the Cape Mental Health Society. We were talking about Bipolar disorder. Bipolar is a mood disorder symbolized by severe mood swings and can also affects one’s energy and functioning. Friday is the Bipolar Awareness Day and different events are planned for that day including two events at the Valkenberg Hospital on the 23rd and the 24th of May. And we also spoke to Etricia Lakey from the TB Care Association about TB. TB Care provides a comprehensive, developmental social support service to TB sufferers and their families around the city. They operate from the community health centres. Their community based TB care programme enables patients to take their daily treatment on the street where they live under the supervision of specially trained community treatment supporters. Our last interview is an interview we had with Dr Mushi Majiela about Endometriosis. According to reports Endometriosis is a relatively common and problematic condition for women. If left untreated it can cause infertility to women. Dr Majiela explained more about the disease.
