17 May – Labour
Today we spoke to Elsabe Petrus – Manager of the Abet Centre in Hillside, Mitchell’s Plain. The classes at the centre are offered free and the educators are appealing to the members of the public to donate books, files and other stationery. They also need a photocopier. For more information or for donations contact Mrs Petrus at (021) 393 0011 or Jennifer Berggren at (021) 393 8687.
And we also spoke to Lunga Smile – a curator from the Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum. This is the first township based museum in the Western Cape and the first museum to commemorate migrancy in South Africa. Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum is located centrally in the Lwandle Township, approximately 55km from Cape Town. If you more information about the museum you can contact (021) 845 6119 or visit www.lwandle.com
