Today we spoke to Mzwandile Peter – Communications Manager of the Cape Flats Nature. Cape Flats Nature is a partnership project that is administered by South African National Biodiversity Institute's Urban Conservation Programme. This partnership builds good practice in sustainable management of nature sites in the City of Cape Town’s Biodiversity Network in a people-centered way that develops local leadership for conservation action and benefits the surrounding communities, particularly townships where incomes are low and living conditions are poor. Nigel Vermaas presented arts update on arts activities around Cape Town. Catch his show MY KINDA JAZZ tomorrow night from 8pm until 10pm. It features a mix of new SA jazz incl a wonderful Johnny Fourie solo album, Melanie Scholtz, Bheki Khoza and others; and then some classic stuff from Ray Charles and Billie Holiday. Also a recording by Athalie Crawford, who he says is not only a fine jazz singer but known to us on Bush Radio also as a radio playwright in both English and isiXhosa.
And we also spoke to Mwenya Kabwe and Lesley Bester– actresses from the Bonfire Theatre Company. On Sunday the 13th of May the Bonfire will host a show to celebrate mothers. The audience will be invite to tell stories about mothers and mothering. This event will take place at Kalk Bay Theatre in Main Road, Kalk Bay at 6 till 7.30. Our last interview was with Theo Kleynhans – a visual arts artist. We were talking about his exhibition called Library currently on at the Rust en Vrede Gallery in Durbanville. The gallery is situated in Wellington Road and the exhibition will be open to the public until Thursday the 17th of May.
