Today we spoke to Thembi Ngubane and Joe Richman – Executive Producer of Radio Diaries. Thembi is a young woman who is HIV positive and over the course of a year she recorded audio of her daily struggle of living with the virus it’s called Thembi’s AIDS Diary. It is a unique story that tells her struggle of living with HIV. The 50 hours that she initially recorded was cut down to half an hour. The documentary was broadcasted for the first time in the United States in April 2006. Since then over fifty million listeners around the world has had the privilege to hear Thembi’s story and now it is broadcasted in the country. She has been all over the country and today they will be at Labia Theater in Cape Town at 17h30. Tomorrow March the 17th they will be at Andile Msizi Hall in Khayelitsha Site B at 17h00 PM on Sunday March the 18th the event will be in Masiphumelele at 14h30 PM. And we also spoke to Nodi Murphy – Director of Out in Africa South African Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. This film festival is one of the very few successful events of its kind in Africa that highlights and promotes the talent and work of lesbian, gay, bisexual and the transgender community in Africa and will run until the 1st of April. Ntombesizwe Tena – Assistant Director of the Ikhwezi Theatre Festival also shared interesting information with us. The Ikhwezi Theatre Festival is a theatre development initiative that happens every year. The festival has been very successful since 1998 and it has received an award at the Arts and Culture trust. You will be able to catch 14 new indigenous plays at the Ikhwezi theatre festival at the Baxter Theatre currently showing till March 24. Our last interview was with George Africa – Director of VSA Arts South Africa. VSA arts South Africa was established in 1992 at the Mary Harding Training Centre, a school for the Mentally Handicapped. This program creates opportunities for people with disabilities through art. People of all ages are welcome and lives are enriched through different projects. They will be hosting an arts festival in October this year.
