Today we spoke to Mark Ogilvie from the Zeekoeivlei Environmental Education Programme. The Zeekoeivlei Environmental Education Programme aims to develop community upliftment projects based on environmental and conservation principles, where biodiversity conservation can be seen to generate jobs and drive social development. And they are running a certificated training course for field rangers from January the 8th to the 19th. We also spoke to Keith Mackintosh - Ballet Master and head of Audience Development & Outreach Programmes from Cape Town City Ballet Company and Mlindi Kulashe - a young ballet dancer from Nyanga. Mlindi has been chosen to play in the CTCB production of the Nutcracker which is currently showing at the Artscape Theatre. Our last interview was with Thando Mtyhobile. Thando is a recording artist from Kayamandi in Stellenbosch. His debut CD was released last year and is called Thando’s Introduction and now he is busy promoting his second album. We were talking about his music journey and also about the work that he is doing with the Kuyasa Kayamandi Community Project. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
