On 1st,August,2019,we had Mona Bango from The Global Shapers Cape Town, a part of the larger Global Shapers Community, a world economic forum youth initiative that drives entrepreneurship, community development, policy and governance through developing young people into change makers.
Global Shapers is an initiative of the world
economic forum it's a global network so there's hugs all around the world and it was important because Cape Town is a big city is
it was like tourist attraction but at the heart of it there's a lot of
challenges that are there's a lot of issues that we face in so as the global
shapers they are independent although backed by the world economic forum and it's important to have a group in Cape Town the kind of brings about changing
works together to change the narrative.
Mona said, "There's lots of challenges that you face, for example this project was aimed to address the skills gap that hinders
women's employment opportunities in South Africa. So, the vision for this project
was to hire a 40 young woman from disadvantaged backgrounds. It went well but you
find that you now some people have different commitments and they can't carry
through with the project and some of those teaching the skills are not as committed or they don't see the vision as much as we do and they are not passionate about it. I think with
any project or anything that tries to change a status and stats it will have some of these challenges. We are a pretty stable group and we work well together, we communicate, we come up with ideas and solutions".
Every year they have a new theme, based on the incoming curators vision for the upcoming year so this year their theme is re-imagining Cape Town because Cape Town is essentially a very segregated city. What they want to do is bring everyone to the table, no matter what your background is matter or your social standing is and collaboratively work towards a similar goal of inclusion.
