All you need to know about bowel incontinence

Bowel or fetal incontinence is when you lose control of when you want to go to the toilet, meaning feces can leak unexpectedly from the rectum.

Dr. Daniel Surridge spoke to us all about bowel incontinence. They are a variety of reasons such as injury to patience during child birth and also with as you get older things do get a bit looser.

He advised that food doesn't necessary give you bowel incontinence however, if you find that some of your food gives you diarrhea then it is best to stay away from them.

Extreme cases can be when a person is no longer able to go to the toilet but rather has a bag attached to his intestines into which the waste is secreted.

There are correctional operations such as placement of an implantable device, this device corrects the bowel and brain communication to ensure that you can control when you go to the bathroom. This has an 85% success rate.

Another method is nerve stimulation therapy is a small operation where there is a little wire inserted into one of the nerves to stimulate it. For two weeks the patient will monitor if it is working, if it is working then they go back into the operation room and insert a little battery that will not be even visible or felt.

If left untreated it can be really hard to live your life because you could be standing at a store and then feces could start leaking. Mostly it very humiliating and many patients find it hard to look for assistance about this.

If you see symptoms of this then get medical advice as soon as possible.
