"Yoga is not only for white people"

The title above is a statement of Kafui Awoonor, the founder of Holding Space yoga studio in noodstock. She spoke about the benefits of yoga for wellbeing, and also about a seemingly racial boundary around it.

She said that you can do yoga everywhere, even for a minute. Just being with yourself and trying to focus on your breathing and meditate is already a form of yoga. It is all about getting your body and mind in balance.

Kafui also stressed the fact that yoga is not only for people with a perfect body, or for white people. The yoga instructors at Holding Space are all black, and most of the particpants are black, but that is an exception, she said.
